Pharmacy Magazine has a controlled circulation and is distributed to more community pharmacists than any other title written specifically for this audience.*

The publication is committed to supporting pharmacists in their lifelong learning and continuing professional development, helping them develop their practice in a way that positively influences patient outcomes.

Written specifically for the community pharmacy sector, the focus of Pharmacy Magazine is firmly on developing pharmacists’ health professional role and extending their clinical skills. It does this in the following ways:

Continuing professional development
The provision of high-quality pharmacist education is a core value of Pharmacy Magazine. In 1995 we were the first title in the market to introduce a structured programme of continuing education modules for pharmacists. Today our award-winning CPD programme continues to form the centrepiece of our educational content: an 8-page NPA-accredited module appears in the magazine every month.

Pharmacy Magazine enjoys the support and input of an editorial advisory panel, acknowledged experts in industry, profession and academia, which is closely involved in the planning, delivery and quality assurance of our CPD programme. The modules cover disease management, POM to P switches, practice issues, policy initiatives and professional services.

Informed comment, analysis and debate
Each month Pharmacy Magazine dissects the news, taking an in-depth look at the issues facing pharmacy and the NHS, and – crucially – considers the implications for community pharmacists.

Practical support
Pharmacy Magazine’s editorial approach is to cover health and pharmacy issues in as practical a manner as possible, so the information can be immediately transferred into the pharmacy. In this way patients and customers can be given appropriate advice about their health and medicines, whether for minor complaints or long-term chronic conditions.

Strong voice
Pharmacy Magazine uses a wide range of key opinion leaders from the health professions to give opinion and analysis of the issues affecting community pharmacists. But it also offers a platform for pharmacists on the ground to express their views to policy makers and leaders of the profession.

The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) has joined forces with Pharmacy Magazine to distribute Community Pharmacy News, bringing contractors all the information and training support they need to run a modern community pharmacy practice – once a month, all in one package.

New roles
Clinical services represent the future for the profession, as does an increasing emphasis on helping people live healthier lives. Each month in Pharmacy Magazine there are articles on new areas of pharmacy practice such as MURs, health screening and prescribing, as well as profiles of pharmacists operating at the cutting-edge. Through their accessibility and expertise, pharmacists have a unique role in helping patients use medicines safely and effectively. Disseminating good practice is a vital part of what Pharmacy Magazine does.

Clinical content
With pharmacy’s growing clinical involvement, pharmacists and their support staff play a full part in meeting local and national health needs. Pharmacy Magazine looks at current trends in research, new drug development, clinical guidelines and therapeutic management as they might affect practice.

OTC medicines
OTC medicines are a vital part of the self-care agenda, especially products that have switched, whether from POM to P or P to GSL. OTC medicines enable pharmacists to play a broader role in meeting consumer needs through the management of a wide range of therapeutic conditions. At Pharmacy Magazine we tailor our educational and training support to maximize OTC opportunities.

Circulation
Precision Direct Marketing manages the circulation list for Pharmacy Magazine. It has access to the most up-to-date list of pharmacists and pharmacy staff. The circulation is immediately updated as changes are made, making Pharmacy Magazine’s circulation as current and up-to-date as possible.

In summary
Continuing professional development and high-quality magazine-based education have always been Pharmacy Magazine’s primary focus. Allied to our comprehensive coverage of professional, political and retailing issues, this means that community pharmacists have all the practical support they need to successfully develop their roles in a changing NHS and prosper on an ever more competitive high street.
